What is the glycemic index?
The rise in blood sugar is what is called the glycemic index. Not only sweet raises the blood sugar, the carbohydrates we eat are converted to glucose, fructose, fruit, starches, rice, pasta, potatoes, etc.. From the way food is prepared or cook also determines its glycemic index.

If, for example, eat a plate of pasta the blood sugar level will rise, to be followed by a huge release of insulin to counteract this hyperglycemia. This sugar is stored in the liver and muscles as glycogen to be used when necessary. When you use the first exercise muscle glycogen, which is why having a toned body helps you burn more energy. When these stores are filled, the remainder is converted into fat, no more.
Always choose whole grain foods: key to stave off hunger

Similar foods may have different effects on blood sugar and food are then separated in slow or fast absorption. The quick release include white bread, white rice, pastries, honey, sugar rising as fast as a rocket. They give a quick energy rush that makes us feel good for a very short time, because just as fast.

Carbohydrate slow absorption, proposed by the glycemic index diet, such as whole wheat pasta or brown rice stable energy supplement for a longer time period, and hence help in balancing blood sugar. This also shows that we have more controlled appetite because there will be lows to send us the signal that we need to get the sugar (glucose) with more food.
